About the event
When Doves Cry: An Artistic Examination of Family Violence is about creating balance and harmony within our homes and in our communities. Many of us have experienced violence within our homes or involving someone we know.
The Art Inspired Healing Collective, Pan African Connection, and Luxe.spiral LLC is incredibly excited about hosting our When Doves Cry: Miseducation of Self Lunch & Learn Writing Workshop on Saturday, October 3rd. This session will include breathing exercises and a jam session based on Prince's hit album, "When Doves Cry", followed by an open discussion to create the perfect vibration to create.
Luxe.spiral LLC aka The Vegancy are known across the country for their seminars on alkalinity.
They have been living this lifestyle since the 90's. Chaun and Eric will be graciously providing us with knowledge about alkalinity, proper preparation of food, and about what to do when considering your drinking water. The delicious menu for the lunch portion includes a vegan taco and nacho bar along with key lime cilantro rice, pinto beans, spinach creamy jalapeno chipotle ranch, vegan nacho cheese, and so much more. Chaun was our in-house chef for our Relax, Relate, & Release Retreat, and she absolutely spoiled us with yummy vegan goodness all weekend long. This was actually one of the meals we had the pleasure of enjoying.
Did I mention that the Lunch and Learn is free? Space is limited and social distancing will be practiced. Get your tickets before they run out! Whether you are a writer, painter, creator, dancer, or whatever, come out, and let's co-create to prepare for our The PH Balance "When Doves Cry" An Artistic Examination of Family Violence experience on the 16th! See you there!
Come out and get ready to use your gift of writing, poetry, singing, playing, creating, designing, etc. Let's celebrate the art of expression and true authenticity as we release what no longer serves us.
· Abandonment: “How can you just leave me standing? Alone in a world that's so cold? “
· Fear: Touch if you will my stomach, feel how it trembles inside. You've got the butterflies all tied up, don't make me chase you, even doves have pride
· Confronting the Pain, Breaking the cycle: “Maybe I'm just like my father too bold, maybe you're just like my mother, she’s never satisfied.”
In the song, "When Doves Cry", crying doves seem to refer to what happens when two people who were once in love start to fight. However, mourning doves don't necessarily just represent grief or sadness: they actually represent optimism in the face of such tragedy. Even in times of great tragedy, there is hope for better days on the other side.
Bring your journal entries, poetry, prose, songs, instruments, paintings, art expressions or whatever way you have chosen to express and release grief, stress, anxiety, and trauma so that you can leave all of that behind.
